Window Seat

A train window onto drifting riso landscapes, one quiet hour at a time.

1:1Slow pace8.5scalmnostalgictactile

Slow, cosy illustrated style for sleep, travel, music and journaling products. A rounded train window with a sill and a glass of water frames flat, layered risograph landscapes that scroll past in parallax and crossfade through the hours: dawn fields and power lines, a dusk forest, a lit night city with fireworks, rain on the glass, sunrise rays over mountains. Heavy paper grain, halftone dots and slight colour misregistration; a tiny serif caption names the hour.

Five landscapes in ~8.5s, each 1.5–2.6s with 0.5s overlapping crossfades. One caption per landscape; something always drifts (parallax, birds, rain, fireworks).

Transitions and text

  • 0.5s sine.inOut crossfade between landscapes; the window, sill and glass never move except a 3px train bob
  • a striped cream blind lifts off the glass in the first second
  • parallax never stops: every layer keeps scrolling left through the crossfade
  • caption fades up 10px over 0.6s power2.out, fades out up 6px before the next scene
  • chapter label and hour line move together as one block
  • end wordmark fades up 14px over 0.9s while the sun rises

Style guide your agent follows

  1. Fixed framing: a rounded window (840x680, radius 72, 16px #cdb498 frame) on a #ead6bf wall, a #ecd4ae sill at y≈770 and a translucent glass of water on the sill overlapping the window corner. Only the view changes.
  2. Build every landscape from 3–4 flat SVG layers (sky gradient, far ridge, mid band, near silhouette) wider than the window; scroll them left with ease "none" at distances like 80 / 500 / 1300px per scene so near layers fly and far ones crawl.
  3. Riso palette only: dusty orange #f08c4c, peach #efa97c, teal #6e8ea0, navy #1e2b55, lavender #9b8fb6, lamp yellow #f3c76c on cream. No gradients except the sky; no outlines.
  4. Fake print texture: a full-frame feTurbulence grain at ~0.55 multiply, a 5px halftone dot overlay on the glass, and drop-shadow(3px 2px 0 rgba(226,108,74,.3)) on a few layers for misregistration.
  5. Crossfade scenes over 0.5s with sine.inOut; give each one a single moving accent (birds, lamp posts, fireworks with expo.out bursts, diagonal rain streaks, rotating sun rays).
  6. Captions are tiny and quiet: uppercase chapter label 19px tracked 0.34em plus an italic EB Garamond hour line 34px ("23:15 · a city, lit and passing"). Never put text inside the window.
  7. End on a sunrise with the wordmark (EB Garamond 78px) and one italic line under the sill. Avoid fast cuts, bright saturated colours and anything that bounces.
