Remotion AI: make Remotion videos with your agent

Remotion makes videos out of React code, which is exactly the kind of work coding agents are good at. Your agent writes and renders the Remotion project. FrameJam is where you watch each render and point at the frames you want changed.

Facts about other tools are from their official docs and websites, as of Oct 2026. Each one links to its source, and all of them are listed under Sources.

What Remotion is

Remotion lets you make videos programmatically with React. A video is a composition: a React component plus its width, height, frame rate and length in frames. Animation is frame-based: a component reads the current frame with useCurrentFrame() and maps it to values with interpolate(). You preview in Remotion Studio (npx remotion studio) and render with npx remotion render.

Remotion also supports AI agents directly. Its docs have a guide to making videos by prompting coding agents like Claude Code and Codex, and official Agent Skills that teach an agent Remotion's best practices (npx skills add remotion-dev/skills).

Remotion is not free for everyone. Its license is free for individuals, non-profits and for-profit companies with up to 3 employees; other companies need a Company License. Remotion's pricing page lists Remotion for Creators at $25 a month per seat and Remotion for Automators at $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum. The license file also says the terms will change slightly in Remotion 5.0.

How FrameJam fits around Remotion

Remotion Studio shows the composition while it's being built. FrameJam does a different job: it reviews the rendered file and turns your comments into something the agent can act on. The loop:

  1. You ask for the video in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, optionally naming a playbook and a style.
  2. The agent writes the Remotion components and renders each version to a new file, like renders/v1.mp4, with the project's own render command.
  3. It opens the render in FrameJam, next to the chat.
  4. You comment at a moment, on a spot in the frame, on a range or on the whole video, then press Finish review.
  5. The agent gets every comment with its timestamp and a frame image with your pin drawn on it, finds that element in the React code, and renders version two.

The review page docs explain each kind of comment, and the guide to editing videos with Claude shows a full review round on video. To start from nothing, see how to make videos with Claude. FrameJam's styles work in Remotion too: the agent applies the style's palette, fonts, easing and pacing in Remotion's own terms.

A short Remotion tutorial with your agent

With FrameJam installed, open your Remotion project (or an empty folder) in your agent and paste:

This is a Remotion project. Make a 30-second launch video for my app with the FrameJam playbook "Product Launch" in the style "Midnight Glow". Use real screenshots from ./screens, render with npx remotion render to renders/v1.mp4 and open it in FrameJam for review.

When v1 opens, leave a few comments and finish the review. Several playbooks start new projects in Hyperframes when you don't name a tool; saying "Remotion" is enough to change that, because your request always wins over a playbook's defaults.

Remotion's skills and FrameJam together

They don't overlap. Remotion's skills make the agent better at writing Remotion code. FrameJam adds the parts that are hard in chat: picking a look, following a method for the kind of video, and precise feedback on the render. Install both. For how other agent video skills compare, see Claude Code video skills compared, and if you're still choosing a framework, Remotion vs Hyperframes.

Playbooks that work with Remotion

A playbook is FrameJam's method for one kind of video. Your agent follows it in whichever tool the project uses.

Questions

Is FrameJam a Remotion tool?

No. FrameJam works with Remotion the same way it works with Hyperframes, Motion Canvas or ffmpeg: your agent builds and renders the video in its own tool, and FrameJam is where you review the render and send comments back.

Do I need a Remotion license?

Remotion's own license decides that, not FrameJam. As of Oct 2026 it is free for individuals, non-profits and for-profit companies with up to 3 employees; other companies need a Company License. FrameJam is MIT-licensed and free either way.

Does FrameJam show the Remotion Studio preview?

No. FrameJam plays the rendered file, so what you comment on is exactly what was rendered. Use Remotion Studio while building if you like, and FrameJam for the review rounds.

Can my agent edit a Remotion project I already have?

Yes. FrameJam's skill tells the agent to keep the project's tool and its render command, and never to convert the project to something else.

Which agents work?

Claude (the Code tab in the desktop app, or Claude Code), ChatGPT (Work or Codex in the desktop app) and Cursor, through the FrameJam plugin. Other MCP agents can use FrameJam's MCP server.
