Comparison
Remotion vs Hyperframes
Remotion and Hyperframes both turn code into video by rendering web pages frame by frame. Remotion builds videos from React components; Hyperframes from plain HTML. Here is what each is good at, from their own docs, and how FrameJam works with both.
Facts about other tools are from their official docs and websites, as of Oct 2026. Each one links to its source, and all of them are listed under Sources.
At a glance
| Remotion | Hyperframes | |
|---|---|---|
| You write | React components, registered as compositions | HTML and CSS with data attributes for timing and tracks |
| Animation | Frame-based: useCurrentFrame() and interpolate() | GSAP, CSS, Lottie, Three.js or any seekable animation |
| Rendering | Chrome Headless Shell, encoded with FFmpeg; npx remotion render | Headless Chrome, encoded with FFmpeg; npx hyperframes render |
| Preview | Remotion Studio | npx hyperframes preview, with a Studio marked "available, evolving" |
| License | Remotion License: free up to 3 employees, Company License above | Apache 2.0, no per-render fees |
| Agent support | Agent Skills and a Claude Code plugin | Agent skills and a Claude Code plugin |

Where Remotion is strong
Remotion is the older of the two, at version 4 (see its releases). If you or your team already write React, a Remotion video is just more components, with props, TypeScript and npm packages. Remotion Studio gives you fast editing and playback while you build, and Remotion Lambda renders on AWS Lambda in your own account when you need many videos at once. It supports agents too, with a skills package for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
The cost to weigh is the license. It's free for individuals, non-profits and for-profit companies with up to 3 employees. Bigger companies need a Company License; the pricing page lists $25 a month per seat for creators and $0.01 per render (with a $100 monthly minimum) for automation.
Where Hyperframes is strong
Hyperframes is built for agents first: "Write HTML. Render video. Built for agents." A composition is a plain HTML file, with no React or bundler setup for the agent to get right. It ships 21 agent skills and a Claude Code plugin, and its CLI can lint a composition before it renders. HeyGen built it and uses it in production. It is Apache 2.0, with no per-render fees or commercial-use thresholds.
It is also young: its first npm release was in March 2026 (see the npm page), and its Studio is still marked as evolving. Its README describes itself as inspired by Remotion: "Remotion's bet is React components; HyperFrames' bet is plain HTML."
Which to pick
If you already have a project, keep its tool; switching costs more than either tool saves. If your team writes React, or you need cloud rendering at scale, Remotion is the natural pick, once you've checked whether your company needs a license. If you want the agent to do most of the writing, or you need a permissive license, start with Hyperframes.
How FrameJam works with both
FrameJam isn't a third framework. It reviews the rendered file, so the loop is the same in either tool: the agent renders renders/v1.mp4, opens it in FrameJam, you comment on exact frames, and the agent gets each comment with a frame image and renders v2. FrameJam's playbooks set the method for the kind of video, and its styles set the look, in either tool. The agent never converts a project from one to the other.
Make a product launch video with the FrameJam playbook "Product Launch". Use this project's tool (Remotion or Hyperframes, whichever it already uses), render to renders/v1.mp4 and open it in FrameJam.More on each: Remotion with your agent and Hyperframes with Claude. The guide to making videos with Claude covers where each fits in the full process.
Playbooks to start from
A playbook is FrameJam's method for one kind of video. Your agent follows it in whichever tool the project uses.
- make a SaaS launch video with AIProduct Launch: Your product goes in, a polished launch video with the real app on screen comes out.
- make a narrated explainer video with AIExplainer: A topic, article or script goes in, a narrated animated explainer comes out.
- make a motion design showreel with AIMotion Design Showreel: Give it your logo and a few things to show off, get a short motion piece cut to the beat.
Questions
Is Hyperframes a Remotion alternative?
Yes, for most of the same jobs. Its own README says it was inspired by Remotion and that both render with headless Chrome and FFmpeg; the difference is React components in Remotion and plain HTML in Hyperframes.
Which is cheaper for a company?
As of Oct 2026, Hyperframes is Apache 2.0 with no per-render fees or commercial-use thresholds. Remotion is free for individuals, non-profits and companies with up to 3 employees; larger for-profit companies need a Company License.
Which one does FrameJam use?
Whichever your project uses. FrameJam reviews the rendered video, so the loop is the same. When a new project doesn't name a tool, the playbooks default to Hyperframes; ask for Remotion and the agent uses Remotion.
Can I switch an existing project from one to the other?
You can, but FrameJam never asks you to: its skill tells the agent to keep the project's own tool and render command.
Do both work with Claude Code?
Yes. Both publish agent skills and a Claude Code plugin, and both work in Cursor and ChatGPT's Codex too.
